Dylan Lafond Earns Berths In Two Events At NCAA II Men's Outdoor Track And Field Championship
Dylan Lafond will represent Mount Olive in an NCAA Championship for the third time this year as Lafond earned berths in two events in the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship May 23-25 at Pueblo, Colo. Lafond qualified for the 3000 meter steeplechase and the 5000 meters.
Lafond competes in the 3000 meter steeplechase preliminaries May 23 at 9:10 p.m. Eastern (7:10 p.m. Mountain). The finals are slated for May 24 at 9:35 p.m. (7:35 p.m. Mountain). The 5000 meter finals is the next to last event of the championship and will take place May 25 at 10:30 p.m. Eastern (8:30 p.m. Mountain).

A freshman from Manchester, N.H., Lafond became the first track and field student-athlete in school history to compete in an NCAA Championship when he qualified for the mile run at the NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship in February. He was also part of the Trojan squad that qualified for the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country Championship in November.
Lafond enters the 3000 meter steeplechase with the 10th fastest time in the nation this season. He posted a time of 9:03.63 May 5 at the Duke Twilight. His time of 14:20.05 in the 5000 meters is the 20th fastest time in the nation, just squeezing into the 21-runner field. Lafond recorded his time at the Raleigh Relays in March.
