Hines, Nesmith Among NCAA Division II Statistical Leaders
Junior guard Dory Hines ranks third in the NCAA Division II men's basketball leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio after Mount Olive's first 13 games, while fellow junior Tamara Nesmith is in the top 50 in five women's categories.
Hines, from Kinston, N.C., has 82 assists for Mount Olive for a 3.57 ratio as the Trojans reached the midway point of Conference Carolinas play. Hines also ranks 11th in the country in assists per game (6.3).
Senior teammate Darrell Patterson from Woodbridge, Va. ranks 33rd in three-pointers made per game at 2.77.
As a team, Mount Olive ranks 15th in turnover margin (+4.8), 20th in steals per game (10.0), 33rd in points per game (80.4), 38th in assists per game (16.2) and 50th in assist-to-turnover margin (+1.13).
For the women, Nesmith ranks in the top 50 in five categories. The junior from Richmond, Va. is 25th in assists per game (5.1), tied for 30th in double-doubles (six), 36th in rebounds per game (9.8), 37th in field goal percentage (.520) and 48th in scoring (17.3).
Junior Joneiqua Gary from Norfolk, Va. recovered from an early season injury and ranks 27th in three-pointers made per game (3.18) and 33rd in three-point percentage (.417). Fellow junior Jasmine McDonald from Lorton, Va. is 22nd in the country in steals per game (3.15).
As a team, Mount Olive ranks 12th in assists per game (17.5), 15th in field goal percentage (.444), 18th in scoring margin (+15.6), 19th in rebound margin (+8.2), 22nd in scoring defense (55.0) and 44th in field goal percentage defense (.354).
